On social media and on-line marketing - helping business to understand the new "people driven economy"
The Official Story
Educated at King’s School Canterbury, I served in The Royal Air Force before forging a career in the motor industry. Working for Toyota, Ford Motor Company, and finally Volkswagen, I worked my way up the corporate ladder as a trainer, a marketer and as a manager.
Moving to Spain at the end of the millennium, I set up a real estate business on the island of Lanzarote, which grew to become one of the island’s largest agencies, selling and renting properties and businesses.
Since 2008, I have been honing my skills as a writer, consultant and speaker, specialising in all aspects of social media. From blogging to Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, I’ve mastered the art of listening to and understanding the conversation, and developing strategies to achieve a real world return on time invested in using these modern marketing tools.
I love the way the world is changing, and how social media is bringing about a people driven economy. At last, the consumer has real power and real choice with the plethora of connections they can make and the vast amount of information available to them on-line.
I see it as my mission to help businesses in Europe to become part of, and benefit from this new world order.
The Personal Story
I was born and brought up in Hong Kong before being sent to boarding school in England. Although very British, I’ve actually lived almost half my life out of the UK.
I’m passionate about living on this little island off the coast of Africa – it’s a fabulous place of beauty and sunshine, I’m passionate about scuba diving, swimming, cooking and eating great food, and I’m passionate about my wife and the four grown up kids I’ve helped to adulthood.
My wife Julie works with me in our business, and she is a relentlessly prolific writer. We live in a big old house we are slowly restoring in the village of Haria, in the valley of a thousand palms.
With the kids all grown up, we’re looking forward to spending the next few years travelling the world, but always returning to our roots here on the island.
